Seedling Raising Methods Of Eggplant in Winter

Jul 22, 2022

1. Seed selection

When cultivating eggplant seedlings in winter, it is necessary to select seeds with full grains and healthy without disease invasion, place them in the sun for 3-4 hours, and then put them into potassium permanganate solution for 30 minutes to sterilize. After being fished out, put it into warm water at 55 ℃ for seed scalding, and finally put it into clean water at 30 ℃ for 8 hours.

2. Soil preparation and shed construction

In order to make eggplant seedlings grow more robust, loose and fertile soil should be selected as the cultivation substrate. During soil preparation, garden soil, horse manure soil and saprophytic soil can be mixed to form a cultivation substrate. Before planting, carbendazim shall be poured into the soil for disinfection, and then a layer of plastic film shall be covered. Note that when sowing in the low temperature environment in winter, a warm shed should be built above to keep warm.

3. Seeding

When sowing, the treated eggplant seeds shall be evenly sown into the soil, covered with a thin layer of fine soil, watered to ensure that the soil is wet. Generally, the seeds will germinate after 30-35 days. When the eggplant seedlings grow to 1-2 cm, they need to be covered with a layer of plastic film. During this period, the temperature shall be controlled reasonably, and the temperature difference between day and night shall not exceed 30 ℃.

4. Post management

In the process of eggplant management in the later stage, it is necessary to regularly cultivate and clear the weeds around the plot to avoid competing with the seedlings for nutrients and affecting the normal growth of eggplant seedlings. During the growth period, it is also necessary to apply quick acting fertilizer once every 15-20 days. After fertilization, it is necessary to timely water and moisturize. In case of poor growth of lateral branches and leaves, prune them in time to reduce nutrient consumption.
